Your menu

How to add the Menu page to your site: sections, dishes and prices, allergens and tags, filling it from a photo, changing it with WI and printing the QR for the tables.

The Menu is a page of your site with what you sell and its price, organised into sections —Drinks, Starters, Desserts…— that you create. Each item has its name, its price, a description, a photo if you like, its allergens and your tags (“Vegan”, “Spicy”). It works for a bar or a restaurant, and for any business that wants to show what it sells with its price. The menu is on every plan, Free included; filling it from a photo and the QR for the tables come with Grow.

Add the menu#

  1. In My page, open the “Page” menu in the top bar.
  2. At the very bottom, press “Add menu”. The page is created straight away, you're taken into it and its content opens.
  3. It starts empty, with no sample dishes: a made-up dish with its price is the last thing that should appear on your site. While it's empty, the page doesn't appear on your site.

On your Spanish site the page is called «Carta», in the bar and in its address (/carta). If you'd rather call it something else —«Productos», «Nuestra carta»—, move your mouse over the left-hand card in the preview, press “Edit the page” and change its “Title”: it's also the name of its tab. The “Introduction” and the card background are there too.

Sections, dishes and prices#

In the preview, move your mouse over the right-hand column of the Menu page and press “Edit the content”: your menu's list opens.

  1. Press “Add section”, write its name (“Drinks”) and “Create”. You're taken into it.
  2. Inside, “Add to the menu”: write the “Name”, the “Description” (what's in it, in one line), the “Price” however you like to write it (“$3.50”, “$12 a portion”, “market price”) and, if you like, a “Photo”.
  3. Go back to “Sections” to create the next one. Each dish's menu (the three dots) moves it to another section.
  4. Close the window: it's saved and you see it in the preview.

Above the list, in “How it looks on your site”, choose “List” (one item per row, with a small photo beside it) or “Grid” (cards with the photo on top, two per row on a phone). It's saved when you press it and the preview changes straight away.

On your site, the sections sit on the photo on the left, at the bottom next to the title, always within reach, and the list fills the other side: press one and the list moves to it, and the one you're reading is marked. On a phone or tablet they become a row of tabs that stays at the top as you scroll. If you don't create any section, the menu is a single list.

Allergens and tags#

Each dish has two more fields:

  • “Allergens”: the fourteen the law requires food businesses to declare (gluten, crustaceans, eggs, fish, peanuts, soy, milk, tree nuts, celery, mustard, sesame, sulphites, lupin and molluscs). Tick the ones it contains. On your site they appear next to the dish, in the language of each version of your site, and at the end of the menu there's “If you have an allergy or intolerance, please ask us before ordering”.
  • “Tags”: whatever you want to highlight, separated by commas: “Vegan, Spicy, Gluten-free”.

You decide the allergens: you know what's in each dish. Always check them before you publish, also if the AI added them.

Fill it from a photo#

On Grow, on the Menu page, the WI tab has “Take a photo of your menu”: with a photo of your menu, the chalkboard or the PDF (several photos if it's double-sided), we read it and put it on your page with its sections, its dishes, its prices and the allergens your menu marks (with an icon or the word). Anything we can't read clearly is left alone, and we tell you what.

  • We don't add photos of your dishes: you upload those.
  • Allergens are only read if the menu marks them; they're never guessed from the ingredients.
  • It all goes to your draft: nothing appears on your site until you publish.

Change it by talking to WI#

In the WI tab, in your own words, while you're on the Menu page:

  • “Put the beer up to $2”
  • “Add to the menu, under Tapas: ham croquettes, $6.50. They contain gluten, milk and egg”
  • “The anchovies contain gluten too”
  • “Mark the omelette as vegetarian”
  • “Take the vermouth off the menu”

The rest of the menu stays as it is, and every change can be undone.

The QR for the tables#

On Grow, in the same “Edit the content” window, under the menu's list, there's “QR for the tables”: the code, right there, and the address it leads to.

  • “Download” saves it as an image (PNG), for your social media, your paper menu or a poster.
  • “Print for the tables” opens a sheet with four identical cards —your business name, “Scan to see the menu”, the code and the address—: press “Print”, cut them out and put one on each table.

Whoever scans the code sees your menu on their phone.

The code leads to your published menu, on your own domain if you've connected one. That's why the code only appears once the menu is on your published site; if not, it tells you what's missing. If you change the menu, the code still works: it always leads to the page, not to a version of it. On Free the card is there too, with the paid plan's label, and its buttons tell you what Grow brings.
