Analytics tells you how many people visit your site, what they look at, where they come from, what they use to view it and what they tap. Visits are on every plan, Free included.
It shows your visits. Your Google Business Profile numbers are in Google profile.
What it shows#
At the top you choose the period — 7, 30 or 90 days — and, if you have more than one address, which one. The address only filters page views and the lists: visits are always counted across your whole site (“Visits · your whole site”). Visits and page views are compared with the previous period.
The chart has two tiles, “Visits” and “Page views”: press one and the line shows that one.
Days are counted in full, up to yesterday: comparing a half-finished day with complete days would make everything look as if it were dropping every morning. Today's figures, if there are visits yet, appear separately (“Today so far”), and join the totals the next day.
- Visits — how many people came in. Each person counts once a day; if they come back another day, that's another visit.
- Page views — how many pages they viewed in total.
- Most viewed pages — what they look at.
- Where they come from — Google, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, WhatsApp, ChatGPT, Perplexity… or “Direct”, which is someone who types in your address or arrives from a link that doesn't say where it came from.
- Where they are — countries.
- Which device — “Mobile”, “Desktop” or “Tablet”.
Taps on your site#
Under the visits chart, “Taps on your site”: what people tap on your site, day by day and over the same period — “Form”, “Calls”, “WhatsApp”, “Email”, “Bookings”, “Directions”, “Google profile”, “Social media” and “Other links”. Press one under the chart to see only that one, or “All” to see them together. These aren't visits: someone can come in and tap nothing, or tap three things.
Form, calls, WhatsApp, email and bookings are what make up the Contacts figure on Home. Messages you mark as spam don't count.
What it's for#
To know whether your site is working:
- If visits go up after you post on Instagram or hand out cards, that works.
- If almost everything comes in “Direct”, people don't find you on Google yet: check your Google profile and the tasks in “WI suggests”.
- If most people come in on their phone, that's where your site needs to look good: check it in the mobile preview.
How we measure it#
We count it ourselves, on the server: no cookies, no identifying anyone and no third-party scripts on your site. That's why it doesn't need a cookie notice.
Taps are counted the same way, without cookies. It doesn't measure the bounce rate. It only counts visits when your site is live; if it isn't, you'll see “Your site isn't published, so nobody can visit it yet.”
Your own Google Analytics#
If you already use Google Analytics or Google Tag Manager, enter your ID (G-… or GTM-…) in Settings › Google Analytics. Your site then does use cookies, and the cookie notice and cookie policy update themselves. It applies when you publish again, and it only loads for visitors who accept it in the cookie notice.
