Kit Digital grant in 2026: what is left, what it covered and what happens to your website now

A small grey house-shaped block on the platform, held up by a lime beam that reaches only halfway; the other half hangs over nothing, tilting slightly.

If you are self-employed in Spain and looking into the Kit Digital grant in 2026, the short answer is that there is no open window to apply. The call for businesses with 0 to fewer than 3 employees closed on 31 October 2025, and the official Acelera Pyme page says it plainly: the programme's calls «han finalizado» (have ended). The useful question now is a different one: what happens to the website you got with the voucher, and who looks after it once what the programme paid for runs out.

What is left of Kit Digital in 2026

The programme was huge. According to Red.es, the public body that runs it, more than 848,000 grants went to SMEs, micro-businesses and the self-employed, worth over €3.4 billion, in just over three years. The last day to apply for the segment III voucher (0 to fewer than 3 employees, where most autónomos — self-employed workers — sit) was 31 October 2025, at 11:00.

What changed afterwards is the small print. Orden TDF/39/2026, published in the BOE (Spain's official gazette) on 28 January 2026, amends the programme's rules in three ways:

  • The rules apply «until the programme's funds are fully exhausted», instead of until a fixed date.
  • Red.es must reinvest any unspent budget, «even after 2026», within the programme itself.
  • If money is left over in a call that has already been decided, new proposals will be made in favour of applicants who missed out because the budget ran dry.

What the order does not do is open a new application window. Applying again would need a new call, and as of today there isn't one. Be wary of anyone who «guarantees» a date.

What the voucher covered for your website

From June 2024 the segment III voucher was worth €3,000. It went straight to the agente digitalizador (the approved provider), who was paid in two stages (70% and 30%). You never saw the money.

The website category was «Sitio web y presencia en internet» (website and online presence), worth €2,000. The rules (Orden ETD/1498/2021, annex IV) set minimums:

  • A new domain for at least twelve months, owned «entirely» by your business.
  • Hosting for the site for at least twelve months.
  • At least three pages or sections.
  • A site that works on mobile and is accessible (WCAG 2.1 level AA).
  • Self-managed: a content manager so you can change things without depending on the provider.
  • Basic listings in directories and basic SEO on two pages.

Notice the figure that keeps coming back: twelve months. It is a minimum, not a lifetime promise.

What happens to your website after twelve months

The rules obliged the provider to give you a domain and hosting for at least a year. What happens next depends only on your contract with them. The programme does not pay for renewal or maintenance after that.

There are three possible endings. You keep paying a fee and the site stays alive. Or nobody tells you anything, the hosting lapses and one day the address stops loading. Or the site stays online with nobody touching it: the 2024 opening hours, a plugin left unpatched, a contact form that reaches no inbox.

None of this is your fault. The programme was designed to get a website started, not to keep it running. If you want to know what proper upkeep costs, we break it down in website maintenance costs in Spain. And if your Kit Digital site runs on WordPress, read what to check on security too.

If you were turned down for lack of funds

Some valid applications were refused because that call's money had run out. For those cases, Orden TDF/39/2026 says that, if funds remain unallocated, the processing body «will draw up new final resolution proposals» in favour of those applicants. The transitional provision applies the change to calls still in force when it took effect, on 29 January 2026.

What to do: log in to the Red.es electronic office (sede electrónica) with your digital certificate and check your file and your notifications. If this is your case, the proposal will arrive there; there is no need to pay anyone to «reactivate» it.

Checking your Kit Digital website, in seven steps

Do it even if you are not planning to change anything.

  1. Check who owns the domain. Look your domain up in a WHOIS service or on the registrar's site. The rules say it is yours; make sure the holder shown is your business, not the provider.
  2. Ask for access to the registrar, or at least the transfer code (authcode). Without it, the domain is yours on paper but you cannot move it.
  3. Write down the renewal date for the domain and the hosting, and what you will be charged. Put it in your calendar a month ahead.
  4. Log in to the site's content manager. If you were never given a username and password, ask for them now, in writing.
  5. Save a copy of your text and photos on your computer: services, prices, the photo of your premises. That is what takes longest to redo.
  6. Open it on your phone and look at what a customer would see: hours, phone number, a working WhatsApp button, a form that actually arrives. We have a guide to checking your website on mobile.
  7. Check the legal pages: legal notice, privacy and the cookie banner, with rejecting as easy as accepting. If you are not sure what each one needs, we explain it here.

Doing it yourself: the full sum

Let's add it up with the times above.

Quick, and done once. Steps 1 to 5 take an afternoon, about three hours, mostly waiting for the provider to reply. Do it whatever happens: the domain and the text are yours, and knowing where they are costs nothing.

Slow, a long weekend. If the site is down, or the provider does not answer and it needs rebuilding, the job grows: choosing a template, rewriting text, connecting the domain, adding the legal pages and the cookie banner. A weekend if you are handy; if not, the agency quote or the nephew appears. What each option costs is in how much a website costs in Spain.

What never ends. Half an hour a month: the August hours, the price that went up, the plugin asking to be updated, the certificate about to expire. It is the part nobody finds time for, and the reason a website gets stuck with the hours from the day it was made.

What we do

We take the slow part and the part that never ends. With wiweb, AI builds your page from your business: a single page made of widgets, with live opening hours (open or closed right now), live Google reviews, services and prices, a map, one-tap WhatsApp and bookings through the app you already use. The legal pages and the cookie banner are included and kept up to date. Hosting, the certificate and a copy of every change are on us, on the free plan too.

To change something, you write to wi as you would on WhatsApp: «say I close at 3pm on Friday». You see the change before it goes live.

Free is €0: your page published on a wiweb address, no card and no expiry date. Grow is €9/month, or €7.50/month paid yearly (excluding VAT): you connect the domain you already have, your Kit Digital one included, without the wiweb mark, with a blog, three languages, your Google Business Profile from wiweb and a weekly review with improvements you approve. No lock-in. The details are on pricing and how it works.

What we do not do: we are not an agente digitalizador, we do not process grants and we do not promise another call is coming. No plan buys that date.

FAQ

Can I apply for Kit Digital in 2026?

There is no open window. The segment III call closed on 31 October 2025, and Orden TDF/39/2026 extends the life of the rules but does not open new applications. That would need a new call published by Red.es.

Is the domain my provider set up mine?

Under the rules, the domain must be owned «entirely» by your business. Check it with a WHOIS lookup and ask for registrar access or the transfer code; without that you cannot move it.

What happens if I stop paying the provider after the first year?

It depends on your contract. The programme only required twelve months of domain and hosting. If you stop paying, the hosting will usually stop working, so save your text and photos first and make sure the domain is in your name.
